Maxwell A White founded White Cleland in 1954 and, shortly after, entered into partnership with William (Mac) Cleland. Then known as M A White Cleland & Associates, it quickly became one of the leading law firms in the Frankston and Mornington Peninsula areas, and grew as it served the business community in the region.

In 1978, Malcolm Taylor joined White Cleland and enhanced its expanding commercial practice. A merger in 1986 with R B White & Co led to the creation of a thriving, fully integrated city office to service Melbourne based clients. The year 1996 saw another merger, this time with the well-established firm of Cook & McCallum, with a distinguished history of over 100 years of legal service to Melbourne and Frankston.

White Cleland has continued to experience sustained and substantial growth and the team now includes over 40 lawyers and support staff, servicing a solid and expanding client base throughout the Melbourne metropolitan area, interstate and overseas. Our clients range from public companies, financial institutions and other commercial enterprises, to Federal and State Government departments, community organisations, family businesses and individuals.
